katUp here in MN we can't help but feel a little superior when we hear people in the south complain about the cold as we reach temperatures why below 0 but then stories like this remind me of how hard it would be if our homes were not build for it.
Anyway that soup looks like a perfect way to warm you up when its cold outsode

kellypeaThe whole concept of frozen anything beyond meat in my freezer is foreign with temps here in the winter rarely dipping below 45 unless you live away from the coast. So I'm feigning sympathy and laughing at the same time picturing it, and knowing my husband would be pissed if he had to do this. But the soup? Oh, the soup. Mine always looks lumpy and thick. Am planning on trying this recipe.

FoodycatYup, that soup will cure most of life's ills! Hope you get your water sorted soon - hot showers cure what soup can't.

MelissaOh yikes. Sorry for all the pain in the ass cold weather stuff. This post was still hilarious though. :)

I've been wanting to make a potato soup for a while. I have a question though and you're as good a person to ask as any he he - how do I use an immersion blender, with its metal end, if I have a nonstick pot? Is that possible?

Donaldkat: i know what you mean. i am always laughing at friends of mine down here when they bundle up because the temp is 40.

elra: thanks. i try to do a soup of some sort every weekend. it is truly warming.

Hélène: thanks. it was quite yummy. :)

noble pig: i'm telling you, that yard trek was NOT fun!

kellypea: no worries, i too feign sympathy all the time! i'd like to hear about your version of the soup.

foodycat: the pipe, she is fixed! water pressure if stellar and my showers are much, much better.

melissa: thanks! u can use the blender just fine. just don't touch the bottom of the pot. the action should suck food up to it as u hover close to the bottom. i don't use nonstick for soups oddly enough. i either use a dutch oven or my giant stainless stock pot. i bet my wife would prefer that i use nonstick though. :)

Abby @ mangerlavilleI just made this soup tonight, but the roasted garlic and the bacon sounds delicious. It will be added next time I make it, which will be soon due to the cold weather. My boyfriend's pipes get freezing. Sorry...I hope you have water soon.

LysI am dreading heading back to Philly and the cold I will be facing. The South has spoiled me for sure. However, I think this recipe is going to be in the arsenal for those cold chilly nights when I'm staying in for the evening rather than face the bitter chill.

PeterYou know it's the roasted garlic that takes this soup over the top!

LeslieWhen do you add the roasted garlic? You don't have that part in the recipe..
