The Just Okay Valentine's Day Outing
I am a bit of a romantic. Not much, but just enough. I buy Beck flowers just-because rather then out of guilt, and on certain occasions I take her out to a nice restaurant for a nice dinner. I try to put my foot into every meal that I make at home, but once in a while we venture out.
So for this Valentine’s day, not only did I get Beck a couple of nice presents, I took her to a local seafood restaurant, GoldFish.
The restaurant has a 600 gallon fish tank that is almost all that you can see when entering the place. It was kind of dark, hence my camera took really noisy pix, and it was very noisy in the restaurant. We had reservations and did not have to wait which is always nice. It wasn’t too crowded either despite it being Valentine’s day.
On their menu they had these items called “small plates", so we went for it and ordered three of the “small plates". We got the fried ipswitch clams, fried calamari with garlic aioli, and mussels in spicy Thai curry sauce.
All of these were good. The clams and calamari were tender and juicy, and the mussels were very tasty though not really spicy. Beck and I like our spicy, SPICY.
As you can see from the pix, there wasn’t too much real estate on the table. Things got crowded pretty quickly. The bread was just okay as well. It was served with herb butter, but when the appetizers emerged, we had to do some crafty shifting of the table items.
Now for the main course, I orded the special, twin crab stuffed lobster tails, and Beck ordered the Cajun sampler. We were thinking that her dish would be huge, but alas, it was very disappointing. It was lump crab cake, broiled shrimp and scallops, with Creole cream spinach studded with crawfish tail meat, and crispy Tabasco onions on top. There wasn’t very much seafood.
My dish was plated really poorly. Everything was slammed to the left. There was so much more dish real estate left. I had these two tails jammed together, topped with a tasty crab blend, but stacked on top of hericot vert, with a small dam of mashed potatoes. One of the tails was over cooked and cold. I was pretty disappointed and this dish was not cheap either.
Becky wasn’t all to pleased with her dish at all. She only ate the seafood. I ate all of mine except the beans which were under cooked, but I’m kinda a pig. I sort of liked her Tabasco onions.

Our neighbors dishes appeared to be a little better.

One of our neighbors ordered the “tower". An amalgamation of oysters, shrimp, chilled lobster, mussels, crab, and smoked salmon. I have to admit, that looked really good.
All in all, we had a decent night out and some of the food was good. My verdict is that for all the money I spent, I would have liked to have better food especially since I could have cooked the dishes at home and it would have been cheaper. I don’t think we’ll be back.
